Murano Glass

Murano Glass from Murano Islands, Venice, Italy, are world renowned for its production of magnificent and colourful mouth-blown glassware. Since the Middle Ages and to date, Murano has been synonymous to glassmaking.


《Fascinating Murano Glassware》

For centuries, Murano glassware are very sought-after worldwide, many masterpieces are collected by museums and collectors.

Most of the Murano glass pieces were originally commodities and religious ornaments. In the 1400s, Murano created cristllo (transparent glass) and lattimo (milky porcelain-like glass) which became art glass.

From the 20th century onwards, many artists are attracted by Murano glass as a medium. Their unique creations combined with the skills of the glassmakers, resulted in new horizons in the development of art glass. Both vintage and new art glass are highly collectable.

In the exhibition of glassware artworks by La Vetreia Bisanzio, a Murano glassware workshop established in 1816, Chi Lin Nunnery hopes to share the magnificence and the appreciation of these masterworks of art glass.
