THE JOY OF CHASHAN KILN
Two more apprentices graduated from Chashan Kiln, Qiu Ye Yixin and Ji Zhen. This exhibition displays the fruitful results of their five years of diligent and unflagging learning, traditional Chinese ceramic works from a new generation of ceramists.
In 2008, Chi Lin Nunnery founded the Chashan Kiln in Dongguan, a neighbouring city ofHong Kong. In co-operation with ceramic artist Mr. Gao Feng, Chashan started to accept and train apprentices to pass on the skills to new comers. Mr. Gao specialises in ceramics of the Tang and Song dynasties, the most matured and prosperous period in the history of Chinese ceramics. Based mainly on the Longquan celadon wares of the Song dynasty, but also other outstanding elements of various famous kilns in Tang and Song, Mr. Gao has trained them in the best of China’s traditional ceramic art. To date, Chashan Kiln has eight graduates who have returned to society and started their career in ceramic work. They have a solid foundation and the courage to innovate. They are not bound by any school of style or restricted by old rules. They are growing to maturity through constant practice. They are an enegetic new force in the Chinese ceramic realm and are nick-named "panda ceramists" by their families and friends.
The little known Chashan Kiln is the cradle of the "panda ceramists" and their unforgettable spiritual home. Here are the tireless inculcation of their teacher and mentor, the fragrance of tea, the seamless teamwork and camaraderie. There is also unwavering support and hope as in the Buddhist pure land, filled with the joy and dreams of the young apprentices in their long journey towards their goal, amidst laughter and tears. May their kiln fire in their hearts bums ever bright and come up with practical and beautiful wares, bringing auspicousness and happiness to mankind.
Best wishes to Qiu'Se Yixin and Ji Zhen!
Best wishes to every apprentice of Chashan Kiln
